Our Stories, Our Songs
Our Stories, Our Songs
Sometimes, a story lingers.
Sometimes, a song carries it farther than words ever could.
Our Stories, Our Songs was born from four voices—gathered at older adult centers in Brooklyn and New York City by Yasmina Spiegelberg of Trio Phōs. They are stories of joy, of loss, of hope, and of a love that refuses to fade.
I followed their voices into three short movements:
Music Pulls Us Together — a Yiddish song, Bei mir bistu shein (To Me, You’re Beautiful), sung by two friends, side by side.
I Feel Confident and Love for Myself — the quiet strength of a man finding courage after loss.
The Sun Is for Everyone — the generous, open-hearted gift of a soul filled with light.
These songs are not just theirs—they are ours.
In listening, in remembering, we are drawn closer.
And perhaps, even in uncertain times, we find a little more light.
Our Stories, Our Songs is supported by an alumni grant and mentorship from the New World Symphony BLUE (Build, Learn, Understand, Experiment) program, which empowers the NWS network of artistic entrepreneurs to redefine the future of classical music through inclusive community and equity-focused initiatives. NWS BLUE projects are made possible with support from the Maxine and Stuart Frankel Foundation.
